This study examined the impact of cultural and religious factors on the choice of tourist destinations, with a focus on religious and cultural tourism in Iraq and Iran. It was found that culture and religion are essential elements in determining tourism patterns, as tourists prefer to visit places that reflect their religious beliefs and are consistent with their cultural traditions. The study demonstrated that religious sites, such as the holy shrines in Karbala, Najaf, Mashhad, and Qom, are among the most attractive destinations for tourists, enhancing the role of religious tourism in the local economy and cultural interaction between peoples.
Based on these findings, a set of recommendations were presented aimed at promoting religious and cultural tourism by improving the quality of services, developing integrated tourism policies, and enhancing cooperation between Iraq and Iran to effectively invest in this vital sector. Focusing on these aspects will contribute to achieving tourism sustainability and promoting cultural rapprochement between different communities.
