Tourism promotion and its impact on activating tourism in Basra

Basra Governorate is considered one of the most important governorates in the country due to its unique location overlooking the Arabian Gulf passing through the Shatt al-Arab, and its center is the city of Basra (the city of Sinbad). This governorate enjoys diverse surface features, which gave it a number of natural tourist attractions that can be used to develop tourism there, in addition to other human attractions represented by antiquities, heritage houses, soil, and shrines of righteous saints whose names are associated with Islamic history. This governorate has suffered greatly throughout its history, and despite the availability of a number of tourist attractions in it, they have not been exploited in an appropriate manner to serve the tourism and entertainment movement in the governorate. The residents of the governorate suffer from the lack of sufficient promotional places that meet their needs and desires. Hence, this research comes to shed light on it. The most prominent of these components and the possibility of employing them for tourism and entertainment purposes to serve the residents of the governorate in particular and the country in general.
Second – Research Problem:
The tourism sector in Basra Governorate faces economic problems despite the presence of many natural tourism components in addition to other human and cultural components, but a small part of them did not receive care and did not receive appropriate attention and was not marketed in the media properly, which affected the tourism movement there, so we found it necessary to promote the components of tourism and entertainment in it to meet the needs and desires of visitors and tourists in it.
Third – Research Objectives:
The research aims to shed light on the tourism and entertainment components in the governorate and present proposals related to developing the tourism and entertainment movement in it in particular by highlighting the role of tourism promotion in increasing tourism demand.
Fourth – Research Importance:
The importance of the research comes from identifying the most prominent tourism components in Basra Governorate through tourism promotion and identifying the activities and services that the governorate’s residents and visitors from outside the governorate want to see in these places.
Fifth – Research Hypothesis:
Since Basra Governorate depends largely on the tourism sector, the decrease in tourism demand negatively affects it, so tourism promotion can activate tourism movement in it.

Sixth: Research Methodology
We relied on the analytical and descriptive approach in the research
1- Analysis through studying the impact of tourism in activating the tourism movement in Basra as a model by determining the frequency of visits and their relationship to the level of services provided in the sites: infrastructure services, roads, means of transportation, accommodation, food and drink and other services.
2- Descriptive: By determining the method of collecting information and monitoring opinions and ideas about tourism activity in Basra, as the use of the descriptive approach enables aspects of the great impact on tourism in Basra.
