The shrine of Imam Hussein bin Ali bin Abi Talib, peace be upon him, is located in the city of Karbala. Hussein is the third Imam of the Ahl al-Bayt, peace be upon them. He was born in the city on the 3rd of Sha’ban in the year 4 AH. He is nicknamed Abu Abdullah and is called the Master of Martyrs and the Master of the Youth of Paradise. He is also called Rashid, the loyal, good, pure, blessed, and the master. Imam Hussein is the second grandson of the Messenger of God, and one of the four with whom the Messenger of God made the Ansar of Najran compete in the Pledge of Allegiance. He is the fifth of the People of the Cloak, from whom God removed impurity and purified them completely. He is one of the relatives whom God commanded to love. The Imam was martyred on the tenth of Muharram in the year 61 AH in the Karbala incident. Perhaps the most important thing that distinguishes the pure Husseini shrine is the spaciousness of the courtyard and the many beautiful arcades decorated with the wonderful Karbala tiles. The holy grave contains Imam Hussein bin Ali, peace be upon him, and his two sons, Ali al-Akbar and Ali al-Asghar, peace be upon them.
