Karbala City is one of the most important cities that occupies a distinguished position in highlighting the role of religious tourism in the country. This city gained its importance through the major event that took place on its land, represented by the most violent incident that led to the martyrdom of Imam Hussein (peace be upon him), the son of the daughter of the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him), and his brother Abbas and those who were with them from the family of the Prophet and their honorable companions. As a result of this painful situation, history shed light on it, which led to making the city of Karbala a symbol of sacrifice and redemption, and people began to flock to it to visit the two holy shrines. Therefore, it was necessary to shed light on this city and highlight its important role in attracting visitors from all over Iraq or from outside it. The theoretical aspect of the research dealt with the origin of this city, its name, and the historical stages it went through, in addition to the most prominent holy places that this city includes. As for the practical aspect, it focused on identifying the reality of the services provided to visitors to the city Karbala, through distributing questionnaire forms and conducting the necessary analyses regarding their answers, in order to reach the most prominent solutions that work to develop the holy city and provide the necessary services to all its visitors, and despite the fact that the performance of religious tourism in the city of Karbala is greatly affected by the security factor.
