The Importance of Tourism Training and Education

First – The importance of tourism training and education lies in a set of benefits that accrue to the trainee himself, to the management and to the guests, as follows (1):

Reducing costs: When training is planned according to an organized program that is reached to improve the efficiency of workers, this in turn will lead to reducing costs. Training contributes to reducing the working period, and when the worker’s efficiency increases, his productivity increases. Which leads to a decrease in his production costs
Satisfying the desires and needs of guests: One of the important benefits that management reaps through the training process is satisfying the desires and needs of guests, because the guest accurately distinguishes between the competent and incompetent worker when he provides him with the service, i.e. whether he is well trained or not, and when the guests become convinced that the workers are competent and capable of performing the work, they will return to visit the hotel again. In addition, they will publish free advertising and deliver it to their friends and relatives. On this basis, the worker can be considered an “ambassador” representing the hotel or restaurant towards the guests, and gives a good image of excellent service and good human relations with customers, thus being an important part of the tourism product.
Employee adequacy: When all hotel employees know their job well and perform it in the required manner and with high efficiency, this helps the manager or supervisor to achieve the goals easily and as planned. The supervisor will move on to other matters in his work and not be preoccupied with this issue that worries all managers.
Reducing absenteeism and increasing production rates: When the management feels that the employees have reached a state of development of skills, capabilities, awareness, responsibility, and a sense of cooperation with the management and performing the duties assigned to them without monitoring and accountability, this will help the management to think about other development programs for the work, so it thinks seriously about supporting the employees financially and qualitatively when they show positive results such as improving production and reducing absenteeism rates, etc.
Safety and health: Through training, it is possible to reach a solution to many problems related to safety and health. The ability of workers to deal with problems that occur in the hotel such as fire or supervision of warehouses and how to arrange and organize food items in them according to certain temperatures and wearing clean uniforms, and applying health instructions in the private facilities in hotels or restaurants, especially the hotel management department, increases.

Improving human relations: When managers exploit time and spend money, in order to reach an effective training system or program that leads to developing the efficiency and capabilities of workers. In this process, they have invested additional effort for workers to achieve success, because workers will feel the management’s interest, and in turn this work will grow and they will become convinced that they are an important part of the management, and thus human relations will interact and develop between workers and management, which will lead to positive results that satisfy the facility in which they work.
