Hillah city is located at an intersection extending between latitude 29-32 north and longitude 26-44 east and the city is the center of Hillah district.
One of the districts affiliated with Babil Governorate on both sides of the Hillah River. This site is characterized by the moderation of the river’s course and the lack of its twists, which takes its waters with the help of the Hindiya Dam, while it used to represent the main river course, one of the branches of the Euphrates River. This site is located in the middle of a number of small urban communities in the Abu Ghraq district from the west, the Al-Mahawil district from the north, the Al-Hashimiyah district in the east, and the Al-Kifl district from the south. The site is also one of the most important natural factors that play a dual role in any region. It is the place where the natural characteristics of the region merge with any human variables in order to provide a kind of advantage for the place that makes it a “dynamic” element in the face of the city and gives it the characteristic of interaction and attraction for various human activities.
The city of Hillah is connected by a set of roads with the neighboring urban centers. The process of easy access between the city and other sites is of great importance in the development of the site, and thus it enjoys easy access to the neighboring regions. On the other hand, the Baghdad-Basra railway line, which passes through the city, provides another advantage of easy access, as it gives it flexibility in communicating with the northern and southern governorates of the country, in addition to the previous advantages of the location. The city enjoys the components of a central location, as it is in the middle of the economic region of the country, and it occupies the central location of the alluvial plain, which is characterized by the advantages of fertile soil and abundant water. In addition to its location on the banks of Hillah, one of the branches of the Euphrates River, which has facilitated communication since ancient times when the river was a means of transportation, in addition to being an attraction for various economic activities near it.
